Life, capital L

I owe explanations, confessions and all for my abandonment. Let's just blame it on life. Despite my efforts to keep up with the blog, it has been impossible. As such, I will be posting quickly at least the outfits here. Let's hope Life (yes, capital L) let's me back on track.

Autopilot

Sorry for the lack of updating. Truth is, I'm almost running on autopilot lately. Plenty of work, little sleep. Promise to answer comments and emails as soon as I nurture myself back to life. A Gin & Tonic straight to the vein might do the miracle. Happy Thursday!

¡Feliz jueves!

Round One

Baby Pich is visiting my hometown for the first time. She finally met her grandfather, who is clearly smitten, and her other crazy aunt, my sister Merv. But the most interesting encounter has got to be with the family dog, Don Octavio. You see, this is a very special, insane pug. And up until now, he had never seen a baby. And Pich had never seen a dog up close. So their first meeting was so intense, exploring each other, almost like a challenge, a duel for attention. So far the dog thinks she's a toy and is desperate to grab her, and the baby can't stop marveling at this weird, ugly-faced, attention-whore creature. Should make for a couple of interesting stories.

Happy Monday!

¡Feliz lunes!

Lame cold

I hate having a cold. It's not like you're sick with something interesting you can tell people about and get a reaction. You know, like Vampire Syndrome. Instead you walk around with a runny nose, teary eyes and a body full of pain that ultimately makes you walk like a drunken debutante. Plus, I'm terrible at taking my medicine at the right time and I get really cranky (well, crankier) when I have to do it. Basically I pull a five-year-old version of me. Oh wait. Yeah, that would be normal, everyday me.

Judging by this outfit you can jump to the conclusion that colds do not come from lack of layering and bundling up. Cuz I'm getting quite repetitive - and redundant - with the same version of a comfy winter manly ensemble. I blame sharing a mini Jagermeister bottle with my girlfriends. The usual suspects. Ironically, I got the worst end of the deal. Geez.

P.S. Yeah, I went there with the socks. Fully aware. Happy monday.

Odio tener gripe.

¡Feliz lunes!

Withdrawal Syndrome

Someone stole my phone on Tuesday. And on the gym's locker room, if you can believe it. Currently going through a very rough withdrawal syndrome. How come smartphones rule our life? Anxiety, anger. Someone hook me up with some data already!

Ansiedad, ira. Por favor, necesito datos YA.

Age is a very high price...

If you coexist with @mostlymelina on the realm of Instagram you might have been witness to my overindulgence this weekend. My body will punish me with pain, bloating and extra weight after it's abusive owner went on an all-out gastronomy excess. And a little tequila. You see, the only thing I regret about hitting the thirty decade group is losing the ability to exploit my stomach - and liver - without having devastating consequences, such as several Sunday hours in bed watching The Bling Ring and popping ibuprofen. Long gone are those wonderful days where you would watch the sunrise and start all over again, fresh as a rose. Age is a very high price to pay for maturity.

Happy Monday.

Feliz lunes.

Oh, Murphy

Murphy: the jerk who established that if anything can go wrong, it will. Like leaving from somewhere and getting a text fifteen minutes later that Xabi Alonso just arrived. Or wearing your new suede shoes and having the weather go totally against the forecast. Oh well.

Happy¿? Friday.

Feliz ¿? viernes.

Closet Conspiracy Theories

Ok, I know I can be paranoid. But... don't you feel sometimes as if all your clothes are conspiring against you? Whispering, sometimes yelling. "No, woman, no sartorial satisfaction today. We are your clothes, we command you. What? What's that? Yes, you're right, you have nothing to wear. BTW, we are totally vetoing that horrible jacket you got last month. What where you thinking?!" They band together, nothing you can do about it. Browsing doesn't help: just a pile of shit. Crap. Plain. Won't work. Arg. What do you do? When taken hostage by your possessions, you stick to what you wore yesterday. And last weekend. And the friday before that. Poor penny loafers. Dearest ochre twenty-buck-blazer. Thank you for your support.

Susurrando, a veces gritando. Aburrida. No funciona. ¡Argg!!

Sid & Nancy

I have new guests. Living annoyingly on my left cheek. Two major zits, ruining my life. At first only one came out, whom I lovingly called Sid. Then, like magic, it's soulmate appeared. Poor old Nancy. They refuse to leave and go to hell, where they belong. What can a girl do.

Happy monday!

¡Feliz lunes!

Noxzema Commercial

Back around when I was thirteen, all I wanted was for my life to be like a Noxzema commercial. I was living in the states when this face wash started to be all the rage, and we girls wouldn't dare to use anything else on our skin. Because if it made you look half as good as that Rebecca Gayheart or get you the hottie she wanted to date, then you struck gold. And for a minute, it seemed like it was going to work for me. One afternoon I was parading my Noxzema-clean face through a mall when a guy from a recruiting booth looking for the "new Noxzema girl" asked me if I wanted to audition. "Great skin, lovely ethnicity" I remember him saying. I wanted to rip out my curly scrunchied-pony tail of excitement, when my mother denied permission as we were in a hurry to leave. Oh well. My father would have never approved, I thought as I walked away, watching my dreams of being that fresh-faced girl on TV. Or getting the hottie. Amazing what marketing can do to a teenager.

More earthy tones, this is becoming an obsession. These pants from last year (they look like a skirt on certain pictures) make a strange aerodynamic effect on windy days.

Y yo feliz.

Time Machine Blueprints

Any blazer with a soft shade is right up my alley. When Spring collections arrive it feels like they have a sign: "Get it while it's hot".

Hate the fact that it's Monday. Let me get back to those time machine blueprints.

I'm blue

I've mentioned it before. Growing up, I loved "Sleeping Beauty" and would watch it over and over. I actually ruined my tape (VHS, what an era) as it got tangled from excessive viewing and my parents had to buy a new one. There was special moment of interest for me and my sisters: The "make it pink, make it blue" scene. Me rooting for pink, obviously, and my sister Sabrina rooting for blue. We had our favorite colors pretty well established, and obviously being the eldest and her being the middle sister, we had to chose opposite positions. We argued forever which version of the dress made Aurora look better. It didn't fit my mind that anyone would chose blue over pink.

Well, years later, I finally caved and started liking blue. Particularly blue shirts. Boyish blue shirts. Striped, solid, you name it. Ironically, besides white, they are the most popular ones amongst my clothes. I love them with jeans and shorts. Perfectly casual. People can change their taste in colors, you see. However, green, do not get your hopes up. BTW, and I finally got my shoes! And don't you just love my new bracelets from Bolboreta?

2013: A Shoe Odyssey

A long, complicated story today. Maybe the gods are punishing me for attempting to own white heels. That's the conclusion I take from my own version of 2013: a Shoe Oddysey. I saw these shoes several weeks ago when they came out, and thought I could wait a while to buy them since it was really cold at the time. Turns out they were sold out online so I caved and got them at a store. However, being white (and obviously not the best quality) they had a few spots, so when they came back online I got another pair expecting them to be flawless, thus returning the previous pair. Seemed like a great idea at the time and I congratulated myself for being so savvy. Well, the plan backfired as I didn't notice that the shoes had a longer, deformed strap that was totally unflattering. I actually didn't realize this until we started taking these pictures and Calamity Red (Raquel, my lovely photographer) saw that the shoes would turn up funny. Shit. Having worn them only for a couple of hours I was so angry that I immediately went to my nearest Zara to get them exchanged. I must say that this is the first time something of the sort happens to me, and even though I didn't know what to expect, the least I hoped for was that someone would hear me out. Well, the person in charge was very uninterested, blamed it on my feet (something about asymetry) and poor judgement while she told me that since I had worn them they could not sell them like that.  For starters, we ALL now that Zara shoes' soles are always dirty, and also I told her that no one in their right mind would buy them anyway since they are clearly defective and she should send them back.

Seeing that it was a lost cause, I politely thanked her and left feeling defeated, thinking that all those stories I've heard about people who exchange faulty products are an urban legend. However, I later was near Serrano so I talked to the girls there (who are always really nice to me) and then a very polite manager took a look at the shoes and immediately noticed the flaw. She tried to get me a new pair but they didn't have my size, so she suggested that I return them so I could try getting them online again. I was amazed at the fact that not only she was so nice to me, but also that she understood what the problem was: I didn't want my money, I wasn't trying to rip her off, the shoes were brand NEW, I just wanted a pair that wasn't faulty. Simple as that. Of course, you can understand that I was reticent to use the online shop again: I wanted to buy these suckers live and try them on. With that in mind, I went right away to another Zara where they told me that, luckily, they had only a single pair and they were just my size. Finally, a break! "They're sending them up on the elevator". Yay. We wait, wait some more, and the shoes are not there. They look, they call downstairs. Turns out some bitch took them. So now, I'm waiting for the new ones to arrive yet again, and trust me, thinking to myself the lenghts women will go when they get obssesed with crap. You can be sure that this time I will examine every inch.

Smartphone Junkie

And we have connection! I'm sorry for the lack of updates, but I was supposed to have internet access during Easter break. And as such I carried my laptop only to find out once there that I didn't. I just realized what a junkie I'm turning out to be. Moving around with my cell phone for a few bars only to catch a glimpse of my mails or Instagram. What did we do before smartphones, seriously? 'Cause I can hardly remember! Oh well, at least I "disconnected" for a while.
