Cold and a cold

It happened. First cold of the season. I can barely keep my eyes open. Signing out. Arrrgggg.

Y sucedió. Primera gripe de la temporada. Apenas puedo mantener los ojos abiertos. Me desconecto. Argggg.

Age is a very high price...

If you coexist with @mostlymelina on the realm of Instagram you might have been witness to my overindulgence this weekend. My body will punish me with pain, bloating and extra weight after it's abusive owner went on an all-out gastronomy excess. And a little tequila. You see, the only thing I regret about hitting the thirty decade group is losing the ability to exploit my stomach - and liver - without having devastating consequences, such as several Sunday hours in bed watching The Bling Ring and popping ibuprofen. Long gone are those wonderful days where you would watch the sunrise and start all over again, fresh as a rose. Age is a very high price to pay for maturity.

Happy Monday.

Feliz lunes.

Nick Keebler

Junior High, like for many teenage girls, was a weird period for me. And one of the main reasons was my unusual boy-crush related rosacea. I'd go from olive to tomato in three seconds, unavoidably. But of all the episodes, the worst had to be the Nick Keebler incident. Dear blonde, blue-eyed, perfect-smile Nicky. My science partner, as fate would have it. He made me look forward to Science class, which I despised, and in the process made me love his blonde hair, which I also usually disliked. As tradition mandates since Kindergarten for boys and girls, Nick would torture and tease me endlessly, which gave me hope that the feeling was mutual. One time he was specially playful, and for some reason I tried to kick him under the table, apparently making some noise. I was caught up in the blue sweater that matched his lovely eyes and picturing what our kids would look like, when Mrs. O'Neill called out my name. You see, that was a weird moment for me being a  straight-A student that was never nagged by a teacher (which would completely change in High School, but that's a different story). We were startled and I awkwardly replied, hearing her make fun our continuous flirting, when I realized that the class was still staring at me. Silence. More stares. Finally, I asked out loud what the problem was, and Mrs. O'Neill pointed out that my face was turning REALLY red. Everyone had a laugh, including Nick, whom of course I could never face again, and I was forever known for my burning desires reflecting on my face. It didn't matter how much Noxema I used. However, Im proud to say that today I finally manage to use it to my advantage.

This is my last bare-legged effort of the season, I think. Time to put the stems into tights and pants for a while, until the weather agrees again.

Countdown to Baby Pich

I'ts official. Baby Pich is coming. Very, very soon. I find myself writing down things I want to tell her when she's older and don't want to forget, such as "I survived the cheap statement necklace era, so you can go through anything". I'm thinking of naming it "Baby Pich's Survival Manual" or "Everything you wanted to know and are afraid to ask my sister". These will have special appendixes: "Do not let Zara.com control you" and "Junkfood: myth or fact?". I can't wait to meet her.

Happy weekend!

¡Feliz finde!

Balancing shorts

A quick Sunday post with shorts and sneakers. I've got the biggest craving for cotton candy. And yes, I'm 5.

Una entrada rápida con shorts y zapatillas. Tengo un antojo enorme de algodón dulce. Ya lo sé, tengo cinco años.

Fatty mondays

Don't you just hate fatty mondays? A direct consequence of the major excess during crazy weekends. But no matter how bloated, you don't change that last gin & tonic for nothing. Detox day.

¡A desintoxicarse!

Summer uniform

There are things beyond my belief and understanding. For instance, the thong song and it's success. Miley Cyrus' hairstyles. The fact that Big Brother's still running on tv. And Kim Kardashian. Woman, you're preggers, face it and buy comfy shoes.

High temperatures... finally? Ehhh, I'm sweating in places I didn't even know I had. So I get out my summer uniform: Shirt. shorts, blazer. These pair have also been waiting forever. Breezy. Happy Monday!

¡Feliz lunes!

Melina's Ink

Once upon a time, about four years ago, I was bidding farewell my lovely cousin at 5AM in the morning. As I'm helping her get into a cab for the airport, the driver is looking at me strangely. Oh well, I'm wearing my pink PJs with fluffy shoes, hard not to stare, so I pay little attention. Suddenly, he asks if my name is Melina. I called for the cab, so he knew before hand, besides hearing it from my cousin. Most of you have heard me complain about my name - best explained HERE - and as such, I embarranssingly answer the man. I barely finished talking when the dude, as me and my cousin stare in disbelief, unravels this GIANT tattoo on his arm. What are the odds. The tattoo spells my name. Not Melissa, not Melinda. No. My weird greek name. I politely reply about the coincidence with a mix of crankiness from being awake and awkwardness at the strange cosmic joke. My cousin is cracking up, so she starts talking the man up. Apparently he had broken up with his girlfriend, my namesake. I quickly went inside once I saw where this was going. The fact that he found someone to help with the amortization of that tattoo was beyond him. A few days later, I get a call at work from Melchor, the cab driver, who wanted to ask me out. My funny and crazy cousin had told him where to reach me and actually encouraged the poor man to call me saying I was single too and the tattoo was a sign. She didn't even give me a heads up, so you can imagine my disbelief. I thanked him politely and wished him luck, knowing that finding another Melina in Madrid was next to impossible task. And also, I had to bite my tongue not to advise him on chosing a simpler name to ink next time. See, I've always wanted to convince a guy to tatto my name on his butt or something, but so far I haven't had the power of persuasion as Melchor's ex girlfriend. Shout out if you're out there, and tell us the recipe!

Campeona. Si lees esto, ¡danos la receta!

Doppelganger

I've always wanted to be a twin. The sole purpose? To have HER try on the clothes - a task I despise - and see if it fits us. How cool would it be to have a doppelganger hanging around? Double Trouble. If she were anything like me, I'm sure that my parents would've been the biggest consumers of earplugs on planet Earth. And Valium. I happen to know the coolest, funniest twins ever. My Marie and my Mela have been my friends for over six years now. We are forever united with a bond over tequila, bad relationships and watermelon liquor. I love the fact that at first I couldn't tell them apart, but as a few weeks went by they looked nothing alike in my eyes. The magic of twins. Maybe I have a doppelganger somewhere in the world and we will meet the most random way. I hope it's during sales.
