I love Guatemala. Not only because of its rich culture and amazing beauty, but because it was generous enough to give me one of their most valuable jewels, my adored Babaloo. Thank you, Guatemala, for your lovely gift, I know it's borrowed, but if I have my way you're never getting her back. Well, my friend wanted to do a little experimenting, we might say, with this incredible piece: a traditional huipil, completely handmade and a powerful symbol of their culture. The patterns and colors are unique for every family so they can distinguish themselves, and they also symbolize their rank. This little baby is close to a hundred years old!! It is such an honor to wear it, and I can't begin to explain the amazing work and detail of it.
It's the second time I've done something like this with her, incorporating such patterns and fabric to modern clothing. I love that she is so fond of her roots (even though most people think she's swedish or something, jaja). And for those of you wondering, yes, I did wear this that afternoon, but not for too long, I was so scared of ruining such a valuable piece!
Yo amo Guatemala.
