Grasp on reality

There will come a day when I have a tighter grasp on reality. This is not it.

Happy Thursday.

Feliz jueves.

Mambo No. 5

I was going through an existential crisis the other day: whatever happened to Lou Bega? Did he manage to get Monica, Erica, Rita and all the women he was singing about? Is he getting paid royalties for the use of his famous song as torture for war enemies? Hell, Wikipedia says that Lou is GERMAN. Didn't see that one coming.

Changes

I know my updating and rambling very sporadic lately, but I'm currently on a huge phase of changes that leave me no time or mental energy whatsoever. Promise that as soon as I'm done I'll try to get back to those usual ways where you wanted to get me a dose of lithium. For now, I leave you with old and new favorites. And my Rudolph nose.

Happy Saturday!

Rudolph

It has been so windy and cold the past few days. The expected weather for this season. And with it I turn into a female version of Rudolph. My nose gets really red and runny. Needless to say, the last few shots of this outfit are painful to look at. Thank God for the wonderful colors. I just love mustard with bright tones like the ones on the scarf.

Happy Monday!

¡Feliz lunes!

Dystopia of manliness

I can be considered a girly girl. You know, pink-loving, makeup-wearing, nail polish-junkie kind of girl. Oddly enough, a rush of testosterone is manifesting more and more when it comes to eating, swearing, snoring and sometimes...dressing. Brogues, boyfriend coats, oversized jumpers, pants that do not flatter your ass. Oh well. I find myself drawn to these things, converting my closet into a dystopia of manliness. Thank God for the occasional slutty miniskirt to balance things out.

Happy monday!

¡Feliz lunes!

Good shot? Not.

Some days nothing goes your way. This might be one of them. Just as with the day we took these pictures. We simply could not get a good shot. Oh well. Happy saturday!

Plaid on Sale

A tartan coat at half-off in November? I go like Ludacris: "Move, bitch, get out the way!". There should be a cure for Zaraholics. This season they have monopolized my shopping. Me no likey.

Rollercoaster

Women, or at least most I know, are an emotional rollercoaster ride. Depending on several factors, such as hormones, impatience and hair color (personal theory), the ride can be fun or the scariest experience of your life. I consider myself to be amongst the latter, unfortunately. So, hop on. If you dare.

Olympic neurons

I'm back from four days of squeezing the life out of Baby Pich. The thought of kidnapping has crossed my mind. It gets harder to leave her as she gets cuter and bigger. And now, back to reality. See if I can control the olympic gymnastics my neurons are playing in my head. Gold medal style. Happy Tuesday.

Feliz martes.

Short Shorts

I know, where's the rest of my shorts? I bought these old Levi's cut-outs at a vintage store in east London. Thinking, of course, that there's only very few good years ahead of me for wearing such atrocities as my main excuse. Because there will be a time in the future, not so far ahead, where I will reminiscence on the days when my legs and thus, ass, where public to half the city. Even when I was younger and despite my Olive Oil complex, I'd leave home wearing one skirt/short for a party and then change it to a tinier version. You see, I love my dad, one's got to avoid heart attacks. I bet if he'd see me with these shorts there would still be a little grunt of disapproval.

It's always a good day for denim plus denim, huh? At least in my book. Happy Monday!

¡Feliz lunes!

Welcome to the jungle

I used to have a major crush on Axl Rose. Well, who didn't back then. More than one daydreamed of being Stephanie Seymour on the "November Rain" video, tacky wedding dress included. And excluding the whole dying part, of course. To have Axl french you in front of a priest while Slash sat in the back, nodding and approving. Totally badass. Oh, those were the days.

As you know, I have an obsession with white shirts and neutral palettes. I can bore sometimes with my earthy inspiration. Well, I went this far. I thought at some point a Jeep was going to pick me up to go on an urban safari.

Happy Thursday!

¡Feliz jueves!

Follow the yellow brick road

Road trip with girlfriends. Best time ever. Playing cheesy music, getting lost because you were too busy discussing who got fat or some kinky sexual position. Asking directions to random guys and using your female charm to get specifics. Missing exits, breaking the law, pumping gas from the wrong side of the car.... I resent that women are bad drivers. We just care less about the road, especially if we're joined by an accomplice. That's why Thelma & Louise is such a classic, they make the ultimate journey. Now if only we could pick up our own Brad Pitt along the way. I recently had such a blast with Moni, Pau and Mela, partners in crime and with whom I'd walk down the yellow brick road to Emerald City any day!

Feeling nothing but love and obsession for these shorts. Paired with an oddly shaped crisp white shirt it can be summer perfection. Happy Monday!

¡Feliz lunes!

Your name is Mervin?

I've never told you about my person. My favorite. I have a little sister and she happens to be the one constant in my life. The first one I run to save in my tsunami nightmares. I think I haven't mentioned her before because we live in our little world and it's members only. No one could nor tried to understand: only she and I get it.  Not my other sister, not my parents, not our friends. And there's no jealousy about it: it's just a special bond. We have dozens of bits, nicknames, movie scenes, anecdotes and inside jokes. Things that are only funny to us. We know exactly what TV shows, movies or music the other will like. We force each other to watch youtube videos and read silly jokes. We do junk food extravaganzas until carb comas and sugar overdoses stop us. We both like the same sports team and hate our adversaries together. We're reality-tv addicts. Because only she finds as funny as me the "Your name is Mervin?" scene on Robin Hood: Men in Tights. Actually, only she can watch that movie with me more than ten times. Or want to be a Beverly Hills Troop girl. She's the only thing that would make me go back home. I know it's cliche, but even though we are apart, we manage to have our moments and maintain our dynamic. We skype about nothing, but it's everything to us. Because... my Penelope Pope gets it. She catches up. She manages the impossible.

Browns and neutrals. Clogs. And my Guatemalan jade with my iq' around my neck. According to the Mayans, I'm a hummingbird. No wonder I can't stand still.

Globalization, ONU and Telenovelas

I'm a distinct, proud member of our own version of the United Nations. During my first couple of years in Madrid, I was lucky enough to fall into a wonderful group of girlfriends. Because we were all from different countries, people started calling us the "ONU", spanish initials for the UN. My guy friends would ask where the ONU was headed every night, since it was usually ten to fifteen girls from all over Latin America. We just bonded naturally, and although we had different cultures, there were also lots of elements that brought us together. A funny and unexpected one? We all watched most of the same "telenovelas" (soap operas) growing up and had major crushes on Luis Miguel. Playing those songs was an instant nostalgic and tequila-drinking moment. Because for us, telenovelas where more than a cheesy attempt to get girls to watch TV. They were a way of life with a huge impact on ours. Most of our knowledge of men we got from them (and Cosmopolitan magazine, of course). Because as latinas we embrace drama, love it, chase it even. The hopeful story of that poor, marginalized girl who meets the rich, handsome first-and-middle-named guy. The struggle to get together despite all the elements of the universe and some psycho jealous bitch conspiring otherwise. There will be car crashes, unwanted pregnancies, murder, slapping and kissing. Not to mention that our girl will end up rich, as she is the forbidden, illegitimate daughter of a wealthy man who dies on cue leaving her queen of the world. And finally, it wouldn't be a real telenovela without some sort of temporary blindness, disability or coma which will cure itself miraculously leaving the couple free to live happily ever after. What's not to like?

It's been a tough week with chillier temperatures and unpredictable behavior of the weather. Usually this makes me want to challenge and wear sandals. I need to buy some new Summer shoes, but I've browsed with no luck. As Bono sings, I still haven't found what I'm looking for. Happy Monday!

¡Feliz lunes!

Time Machine Blueprints

Any blazer with a soft shade is right up my alley. When Spring collections arrive it feels like they have a sign: "Get it while it's hot".

Hate the fact that it's Monday. Let me get back to those time machine blueprints.

Urban Poetry

I don't know about you, but I love to read the scribbles that people leave around bathroom walls, trees, park benches and such. It strikes me as lovely, meaningful urban poetry. Words and phrases that tell a story. Knowing that "Kisha was here" at a certain point or that "Shonda loves Peter forever"... it just makes the world a better place. Song lyrics, team cheers, broken hearts. You name it. So you can guess that finding the eternal, meaningful lyrics to the Macarena written in pink was amusing enough to bring a big old smile to my face. And do a little dance.

And so, we go from rain to sun to rain again in ten minutes. Well, great excuse to get my new parka to work. Still, wishing of that day where I can leave home without a hat.

Mix it up

Sometimes, even I like to get dressier and clean up. Well, only when it's demanded. Can't elaborate much today. Whatcha think of the mix of patterns? No, I wasn't drunk when I got dressed. I'm happy, I had peanut butter. Happy thursday!

No puedo alargarme hoy. Estoy feliz, he comido mantequilla de maní. ¡Feliz jueves!
