Favorite spring looks

These six looks where, judging by comments in general, the favorites of last year's Spring. What I like so much about this season - if we get a few weeks of it which is highly unlikely - is that you can play around a lot with outwear and bear skin with atypical outfits. Let's see how it plays out this year.

Those crazy ombre jeans, where are they now? I just realized that I can't be trusted around white t-shirts. Nor cheesecake.

Summer's going bye-bye

One of the things I like about living here is having seasons - real ones - and the transition from one to another. Where I come from it's summer all year round, which is a blessing since you can go to the beach on Christmas day, but with the handicap of not having the excuse of the "new season" to buy stuff without remoarse. I especially like fall. Its colors are the most beautiful pallete of all. My first fall I would walk endlessly just staring at the trees and thinking that they where exactly how I imagined them to be. Yes, I will probably miss my eternal summer during the typical "I hate this shitty weather" phase that accompanies below-zero lows and wet, rainy afternoons once the novelty of the new outfits for the season is completely gone. But for now that's far away, since living in Madrid the summer's especially long. Score! You can squeeze the last drop out of your wardrobe. And yet, some days you wish for cooler afternoons so one can start layering like an onion and breaking in the new acquisitions. For now, I'm just saying my loving farewells to those garments that I will probably never wear for months to come, or who knows, ever again.

Yellow skirt: good riddance. We will meet again, if my weight remains similar and I don't suddenly feel the need to cut you up and renovate you. You have been good to me.

Double Trouble

I get told a lot that I look like other people. And I mean A LOT. It's usually someone's friend of a friend, so there's no way I can ever meet this doppleganger of mine. And they always live elsewhere or have a disease or a missing arm that makes them unsocial (I'm exaggerating for dramatic purposes). Thing is, after getting told a thousand times stuff like "Oh my God, are you related to Squeegy Beckinheim?",  I just answer "Sure, why not?". The hell with it.  It got really weird a few years back when I stilled lived at home: a lot of people started confusing me for this lawyer's daughter, to the point that they would constantly "send their love to my father" but they were not talking about my actual dad. Until I finally got the nerve to ask my mother, just in case. So, look-alikes, if you're out there, reach me out and we'll go disco dancing. Double trouble!

I'm wearing the widely seen brown maxi skirt with a shirt that I love, bought a couple of years back when it was really hard to find anything with studs, not like the current stud diarrhea facing us right now. You've seen almost everything from this outfit already, but what can I say,  they are my summer babies.

I'm hitting the beach, and hope to hit it HARD. Happy Friday!

¡Feliz viernes!

Marco Polo

I love going out with my girlfriends. Ladies' night are the highlight of my week, as most of my married or happily involved friends take time off their busy schedules to grab a bite, a beer and a laugh with dear old me. It surprises me how we still manage make fun of guys, like old times, because they can be so dumb when trying to approach a girl. The nerve of some dude who comes hitting on you and you blow him off, and then he goes for the friend right next to you. If that's not exploiting a location, I don't know what is. Also, it's so much fun when your friends get lost on that crowded, hip place and you end up playing the Marco-Polo game to find them, or in my case, making parrot sounds. Gee. Growing up is overrated.

Lately I find myself going to extremes. This summer, either maxi or mini, no in-betweens. The sad thing is it reflects my personality. I don't like half-baked things. Black or white. Go big or go home. The maxi item for this look is a purple skirt with a yummy built in draft device. So fresh for recent infernal temperatures. I find these to be a great alternative to my eternal shorts

Happy friday, everyone!

Yes, it "models"!

I was a really girly girl. Too girly, almost corny. Everything had to be pretty and pink. And above all, I refused to wear pants. It was dress after dress for me. I would cry if I had to put on those boyish things. But not just any dress would do, oh no. My mother tells the story of how I had to make sure that all my dresses fit one standard: they had to "model". And what does an annoying smart-ass 5-year-old refer to when she says that? Well, according to me, "model" meant that the skirt had to flow and open when I twirled. My poor saint of a mother had to wait until I tried on a dress and made sure it "modeled". If it were me, I would've killed that child right there on the spot. It went on for a while, throughout most my childhood. I see pictures of myself with my sisters and other friends on an average day and there I am, messy hair from playing and running, but my dress clean and pretty, whilst everyone else wore pants and comfy clothes. I have a slight suspicion that my offspring is gonna be filled with tomboys.

Well, if I had to say something about this skirt, I'd say it definitely "models". It is a little dressy, so I decided to take it down a notch wearing a more informal t-shirt, I like contrasts as you can see. It was a windy day and thus a challenge to take these pictures, since I'm not one of those graceful creatures only found in Victoria's Secret catalogs or similar that can actually use the wind to their advantage. So I found myself with a skirt that "modeled" against my will and I couldn't help but think that my childhood self would've been ever so happy.

De niña era muy femenina. Demasiado, casi cursi.

Finders, keepers

Primark in Spain is almost an urban legend to me. Why do I say this? Because even though I see a lot of other people who find wonderful stuff, I hardly ever seem to catch a break. I've been to a few stores in Madrid and never left completely satisfied. A total difference with the one in London, that time my poor arms could barely carry all the bags. But.. finders, keepers! I got my hands on this skirt that I happen to love. Could my luck be changing?

He estado en varias tiendas de Madrid y nunca me he ido realmente satisfecha.

Lolo and I

Meet Lolo! My "nephew" and sort of godson. Isn't he the cutest? He actually belongs to my amazing photographer friend who helps me out a lot with this blog. Rocío, thank you for all you do! Well, Lolo and I went for a lovely sunday stroll, he's getting so big already, even has strength to pull me and everything. I was wearing the famous and seen-throughout-all-blogs maxi skirt from Zara, nothing new, but I still love it. It was quite windy and I've been with an on and off cold, so I keep wearing huge scarves around my neck. I like this look overall, with the sneakers. Perfect for a lazy day.

¡Conozcan a Lolo!
