London, baby!

Day one in London. I had such a blast, I didn't even care about the weather ("lovely" British summer). My sister Sabrina - Bree- and Bil (my petname for George, my brother-in-law) we're so amazing and spoiled and pampered me like crazy. I loved seeing the city covered in the Union Jack flag and watching people go mad over the Queen's Jubilee celebrations. 'Cause trust me, EVERYTHING was about the Jubilee. It was a marketing jewel and miracle for businesses. Newborns were named Jubilee and people camped outside to get a good spot to watch the celebration, despite the heavy rain and low temperatures. It was insane.

We did our own thing, just relaxing, walking around and eating great food. You CAN have a spectacular meal in London if you know where to go. I miss my morning Jubilee juice, made out of Jubilee strawberries (whatever those are), but mostly I miss my siblings, I love having family around.

Olive Oil and the skinny legs

I despise Popeye cartoons. Growing up, I was called Olive Oil for most of my childhood, since I was tall and very skinny. They especially made fun of my legs. I know we've all been bullied somehow, I actually didn't let it affect me that much, although I do remember going to bed at night and praying for three things: health for my family, magical powers and five extra pounds. Funny, now I pray to get my old metabolism back. Anyhow, it amazes me how cultural differences can go further than taste in food, religious views or other behaviors. It can also affect how people appreciate certain things. Where I'm from, skinny legs and slim ankles are unattractive. They generally like thick and voluptuous legs. Whereas in Europe it is exactly the opposite. Well, despite my original complex created from Olive Oil nightmares, I wore skirts and shorts back home, stopped caring and eventually got over it. Now it's my favorite thing to wear and the best part is here no one cares.  Period.

These are the shorts I told you about in a previous Tie Dye post. I was waiting to wear them for so long and finally we had perfect summer days in Spain right before I left. I'm crazy about their spiky studs and cut-out style. I styled it with one of my favorite shirts and the most popular black sandals on the web, and presto. Hope I can update with London posts, although we're having crappy weather that has complicated things. Kisses.

Besos.

I feel honored...

I'm over the moon that my look The Parrot has gotten two wonderful awards on Chicisimo. The first, a Maria's pick flower and recently one of the three Chiara's flowers (also featured on her blog HERE) for the best look of May. I cannot begin to describe how humbled and happy I am to have such talented ladies whose opinion I admire and value so much like a look I created. Big thanks, you've made a girl very, very happy!

Still in London, hard to update and sorry if I have a lot of typos, I'm working on a Mac (so new to me) and with an english keyboard! Kisses.

Mil gracias, no tengo palabras!

Besos.

Put the lime in the coconut

Ok, so you know the story of the Parrot (told HERE). Well, I've got the funniest update and I just had to share it. It turns out that my traitor but lovely friend whom I adore got herself a pet. A dog called Jackie. Needless to say, I'm jelaous and I hate the bitch. I used to be the third-wheel-sorta-pet of her house, and now she traded me. But not to despair, since my mysterious powers have avenged me. It turns out that her neighbor has a parrot whose favorite hobby is singing at the crack of dawn and then top it off screaming "I'm singleeeeeeee and acclaimeeeeeeeeeed!" Seriously, what are the odds? My friend, at six in the morning, could not help but laugh because it reminded her of the other parrot left in Madrid, but in the end she had to talk to her neighbor because the crazy bird would not shut up. Karma's a bitch. What Cookie doesn't know is that I plan to train it telepathically so she can bite that slut Jackie.

Now to my outfit: I love these neon shoes so much. Pairing it with a simple ensemble seems like the way to go, although I've tried different variations every since I got them a few weeks ago. I can't help singing "Put the lime in the coconut" every time I wear them. I even got a little dance going on like on "Practical Magic".

I also wanted to tell you all that I'll be leaving for London today to visit my sister and there might be radio silence for a while. I promise to try to update as much as I can. Tons of kisses!

No puedo evitar cantar "Put the lime in the coconut" cada vez que los uso.

I told myself time had stood still

Sometimes I think I was born on the wrong century. Don't get me wrong, I love modernity and the times we live in have lots of perks (can you say smartphone?). However, I do like to pretend from time to time like I'm from another era at least to crack myself up. I mean, I would've been a kick-ass lady-in-waiting, although I hate to wait for anything. And I can totally see myself in Paris at it's literary golden age in the 20s, drinking wine with Ernst and hanging out at bars waiting to be someone's muse. Salvador's for sure. Or maybe Pablo's. And yeah, you guessed it, I loved "Midnight in Paris".

I like this outfit because of the mix of elements. The hat has a nostalgic feeling to it, and mixed with the vest can be sort of Annie Hall-ish. The simple maxi dress is so comfy for summer, is one of those cheap buys that you feel lucky to have thought of. And my poor belt that saves me all the time, perfect for getting the right proportions. Throw in the typical streetmarket bag and wooden wedges, and you have a lifesaver combo. I happen to love it. It's finally Wednesday people, hang in there!

Vegetable print

Honeslty... is it me or it has not been well received? I haven't seen this trend as much as I thought I would have by now, given Dolce & Gabbana's Spring Summer 2012 veggie fever. This collection, which also featured other trends that have hit the streets harder, such as crop tops, cullotes and ladylike dresses, was inspired by a nostalgic and beautiful Sicily of the 50s. There are hardly any clones on the low cost stores, not like other garments that have been massified. And it makes me wonder: do people fear wearing an onion as a fashion statement? Is chili pepper too hot for the street? Who would've thought, I'm not a veggie person, but I sure as hell would want one of these pieces. Let's wait and see if it picks up.

Honestamente...
