Canary Yellow

I don't like my name very much. Anyone who knows me has heard me bitch about it (sorry guys). I'm tired of being called Melissa, Melinda, Malena or any other name that sounds like mine and is more popular. I also hate having to repeat it twice or three times only to have people forget it or getting called the wrong name anyways. I mean, I'm dominican, with a greek name, currently living in Madrid. Talk about globalization. It was confusing even to my father, who wrote the wrong name on my birth certificate, but that's a whole other story. My mother swears she named me after Melina Mercouri. But I know she named me after spanish singer's Camilo Sesto "Melina", which was a hit the year before my birth. Coincidence? I think not.

So, "canary yellow". That is one of the meanings of my name. "Honey" is another one. Yeah, right. The definition of Melina's personality: sociable but with an intense, strong character (true), likes to stand out (sadly, true) and loves to dominate (hell, yeah). Sorry mom, you asked for it. Why am I rambling about my name, you might ask? Well, the yellow thing strikes a cord. Hence my love of anything this color, so deep that made me raid a closet and snatch this jacket ji ji. The jeans and shoes you've seen before. The bag with the studs is another new favorite of mine. The thing with yellow is that you must make it the sole star of the outfit, at least I know I do.

Have a good weekend, all!

No me gusta mucho mi nombre. ¿Coincidencia? No creo.

Y bien, "amarillo canario".

This will be the day that I dye

Let me introduce you to my new favorite pair of jeans. I'll probably get sick of them very soon since I can't stop wearing them, but right now that seems highly unlikely. We saw the tie dye trend post a few days ago, and I mentioned that I liked it on denim much better. Well, these jeans are the reason why - and a cool pair of shorts that I'll wear as soon as the weather agrees. I think they go great with everything since they are much more subtle than other prints. I decided to pair them with a black top and a safari jacket (although I'm not lying, I've tried every permutation this week). I feel as if they're gonna beg for mercy soon!

It's finally Friday and it just so happens that I'm in so much pain right now. I attempted a 5 day streak on the gym since next week I'll hardly set foot on the premises, and even though I got through it, I'm now paying the price. Screw the Bikini 2012 effort. Enjoy your weekend... I'll be working, arrrg.

Tie Dye

Ok, so we've been talking about trends, and we KNOW that this one, pastels and neon are totally dominating stores. I didn't think I was going to get so much into the tie dye phenomenon, but I have to confess I've succumbed. That's why I decided to write a little bit about it - even though everyone has talking about it - so we can get where the inspiration comes from.

Celebrities that like tie dye, LOVE tie dye. They stick to it like gum. Such as Kate Bosworth.

Others like Olivia Palermo do it while keeping their elegant style. It's not simple since this is a very fresh, young and funky trend.

Another fan: Nicky Hilton does both worlds, on the street and red carpet.

Nicole Richie preffers maxi dresses.

Nicole Richie prefiere los vestidos largos.

Ashley Tisdale and Hayden Panettiere have also signed up for the trend.

Bloggers are also manifesting their homage to tie dye.

You can find many items that fit this trend. I myself like the denim tie dye better, and I confess I've bought both jeans and shorts (these last ones are my favorites, the Bershka ones with spikes shown below ).
